A medical assistant is a member of the healthcare team who performs clerical and clinical duties in a medical setting, most frequently a doctor’s office or clinic. Their skillset includes taking vitals and administering vaccines, but does it also include botox injections?
Botox injections are not something that can be performed by medical assistants, unfortunately. Only qualified medical professionals, such as dentists, physicians, and registered nurses, are permitted to administer Botox injections.
Injections of Botox are created using the toxin that is responsible for the illness known as botulism, which is transmitted through consuming contaminated food. Botox injections, which use a purified form of the botulinum toxin, work by producing temporary paralysis in the muscle when they are administered to.
Although Botox is most commonly used to treat wrinkles, it also has medical applications for things like migraines, bladder spasms, and lazy eyes. It’s risky to use improperly due to the muscle paralysis it causes.
It is not safe to have botox injections administered by a medical assistant, even a certified one.
Medical professionals with appropriate licenses are the only ones allowed to inject Botox. Further, the majority must take certification courses specifically for administering Botox injections before they can legally do so.
