Botox Courses For Dentists

A recent survey indicated that two out of three dentists are in favor of dentists being allowed to offer Botox and dermal fillers.  A few of those think Botox should only be offered by dentists for therapeutic dental purposes, such as TMJ, while most of them believe dentists should be allowed to administer Botox for both therapeutic and cosmetic purposes involving the head and neck.

One dentist summed up the position by pointing out that no other profession is so well-versed in the anatomy of the human head and neck.  Other dentists echo this sentiment and also point out that dentists are specifically trained to administer injections in many of the same general areas where Botox is administered and that dentists tend to know more about the nerves in the face than most other doctors, except maybe plastic surgeons.  Indeed, some dentists already offer a number of cosmetic dental procedures, The right use of Botox or dermal fillers can augment the results of other procedures.

In some states many medical professionals other than doctors, including physicians assistants and estheticians, are allowed to administer Botox and dermal fillers with proper training.  Because of the frequency with which dentists administer injections of anesthesia to patients who are already in pain, dentists may be more adept at gently administering other types of injections so that pain is minimized. An intimate familiarity with the anatomy of the face is also a natural advantage.

There are those who disagree and believe only certain specialists should offer Botox, or that dentists should only be allowed to use Botox for therapeutic purposes, such as TMJ or bruxism.  These dissenters are in the distinct minority among dental professionals.

Currently less than 10% of dentists are trained in the use of Botox, though this number is growing.  As more dentists offer Botox, more therapeutic uses are being discovered.  Many patients with TMJ, bruxism or general facial pain have been through a variety of treatments and seen little relief.  Botox could well be the answer for many of these patients.  It can also be useful in helping patients who have recently been fitted for dentures become accustomed to them, especially those patients who have been without teeth for some time.

Even cosmetic uses for Botox aren’t limited to erasing wrinkles, though erasing wrinkles around the mouth and nose can by the best way to round out cosmetic dentistry to create a perfect smile.  When there is excessive muscle tension around the mouth, all the work done by braces and retainers can go down the drain over time.  Botox can be used in conjunction with orthodontic treatments to help retrain the muscles to help keep the teeth straight.

Why Choose our Course?

When you take our course (see our new online training classes), you will be learning from general dentists with dental practices just like yours.  You will learn everything you need to know about Botox, but in this course, you will also learn how to integrate Botox with cosmetic dentistry procedures such as veneers to create attractive lip and smile lines.  It can be frustrating as a dentist to receive training from instructors that do not understand your practice and are unable to show you how Botox can be integrated into your practice effectively for both therapeutic and cosmetic uses.  In this course, you will learn how Botox can be used to augment the work you’re already doing in terms of orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, and restorative and cosmetic dentistry as well as in treating TMJ, bruxism and facial pain.

We have worked hard to create a course that offers comprehensive education in Botox and dermal fillers that include practical uses that you can implement as part of your practice as soon as you get back to the office.

Many of the dentists who have taken our course had previously taken other courses and found that the training they received in those courses was not sufficient for them to be able to implement the training into their existing practices.  Overwhelmingly, these dentists express the wish that they had saved their time and money on those courses and taken the Dentox course in the beginning.

The Academy of General Dentistry does support providing general dentists with education on the use of Botox and dermal fillers for both therapeutic and cosmetic uses.  More than thirty states currently allow dentists to administer both Botox and dermal fillers.  If you practice in a state that allows you to use Botox and dermal fillers as a dentist, now is the time to join the growing numbers of other dentists who already offer it as part of their practices.

Our goal in creating this course is to educate dentists and their teams in how botulinum toxins and dermal fillers work and how they can be used both therapeutically and cosmetically as part as part of your existing dental practice.
