Cosmetics Growth Being Driven By Proliferation Of Botox

The growth in the plastic surgery industry is continuing to be driven by Botox, dermal fillers and chemical peels, the most popular cosmetic procedures for several years in a row, according to information released recently. And it isn’t just cosmetic surgeons who are benefiting from this trend. Any medical professional with Botox training can get in on the act.

Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons proven that the trend is still growing. As many as 15 million procedures of one kind or another are done each year, many by dentists, estheticians and other medical professionals.

The significant growth in minimally invasive procedures has widened the field of medical professionals who can participate in the growth of the trend, according to experts. Growth in the number of invasive surgical procedures is actually stable or showing only slight growth.

The skin-smoothing treatment called microdermabrasion is also among those growing in popularity, with a rise of nearly 10 percent a year being seen. Laser hair removal, chemical peels and dermal fillers are among minimally invasive procedures seeing the same kind of moderate but impressive growth that Botox is experiencing.

Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures account for perhaps 13 million procedures a year, while surgery accounts for just over 1.5 million. Most surgeries are facelifts or breast enlargements.

Body contouring and tummy tucks also remain popular cosmetic procedures.

Breast enhancement procedures have been on the decline by 5 to 10 percent a year, but they’re still the most common invasive cosmetic procedures.

The statistics and anecdotal evidence together show that there’s no end in sight to the trend toward minimally invasive cosmetic procedures like dermal fillers and Botox injections, both taught during Botox training courses.
